Taylor Swift Is Reportedly in Talks to Star in Remake of 'The Bodyguard' (2025)

Taylor Swift starring in the remake of a classic movie about the world's biggest popstar would just make sense—and, according to some reports, there's a good chance it might just happen. An inside source recently told the Daily Mail that Swift is "close to signing" on to play the lead in an upcoming remake of the 1992 Whitney Houston classic The Bodyguard. This comes after the news that Sam Wrench, director of Swift's 2023 concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, had officially signed on to direct the remake.

The 1992 film starred Whitney Houston as a famous singer and actor who, terrified by a stalker, hires Frank (Kevin Costner), a bodyguard, and begins to fall for him. The film's best-selling soundtrack included hits like "I Will Always Love You" and "I'm Every Woman."

According to the Daily Mail, Swift's on-going negotiations include discussions about new music she would write and perform in the film, as well as talks relating to merchandise and the casting of her love interest.

While one source told the publication that "the deal is almost done," another source claimed that the reports may not be true.

Over the years, Swift has done her fair share of acting. In 2019, she played feline singer Bombalurina in the adaptation of Broadway's Cats and in 2022, she appeared in David O. Russell's Amsterdam as Liz Meekins, the daughter of a senator seeking answers about his death. Other cameos include New Girl, The Giver, CSI, and Valentine's Day.

Tyra Banks is one person who has already given this potential casting her stamp of approval. While discussing the remake onToday with Jenna & Friends, Banks explained to Jenna Bush Hager she thought Swift would be perfect for the role—"'cause business and commerce, art—she would freakin' sell like crazy," she said, adding, "But, okay, I'm just gonna be real, I'm a Black girl, it was Whitney Houston as a Black girl, Kevin Costner as a White man. What if we flipped it and it was Taylor Swift and Idris Elba? Hot!"

As for Swift, she has previously expressed an interest in taking on more acting roles. "If there was something that came up that was really interesting in a different way, that would be cool," she said to Variety following her turn in Cats. "But I really just want to do things that enrich my life and I want to have adventures and I want to do things that I’m curious about. It’s kind of just where I am."

Swift has been keeping a fairly low profile since wrapping up her Eras Tour last year and supporting her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, at the Super Bowl in February. She and Kelce are reportedly "taking a break" from the spotlight following their busy year. According to one source, who spoke to Page Six, the couple have been spending their down time simply relaxing. "They like to cuddle on the couch and watch movies, play board games, spend time with family, cook dinner together, and just hang out,"the source said. As another source recently told People, their down-time is "special." "They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it," said the source. "They are making the most of their time off together. They are hanging out with friends, too. It's a special time for them."
